Still Surviving, against the odds

International rescue teams have pulled out their first survivor. A Russian team successfully extracted a 61-year-old woman in the town of Dujiangyan, after failing to find signs of life in 17 previous locations. It took them just 16 minutes to pull her out to safety after ensuring that she was conscious.

A 69-year-old man is rescued after 5 days. He's suffering from severe dehydration. Another man too managed to survive for 139 hours before he was rescued, fully conscious with minor bruises.

Survivors are evacuated from disaster zones as two rivers, dammed by landslides, threaten to flood their banks.

The US sends the first foreign military aid to China. US$1.6 million worth of humanitarian supplies including food, water, generators and blankets arrive in Chengdu.
